Pura Mama

Daniela Prado, CPPNS

Daniela is a Certified Postpartum Nutrition Specialist. She reviews the nutrition guidance across Pura Mama's guides and recipes, and she runs the one-to-one and group coaching herself.

Daniela had her son in 2022. She was ready for the birth. Nobody had told her what the weeks after it would ask of her.

Her mother, born in Ecuador, knew. She cooked the way women in her family had always cooked for a mother who had just given birth: warm food, soft food, broths and stews, and she was firm that Daniela was to rest. Forty days of it. Daniela recovered well, and it took her a while to understand that this was not luck. It was the food, and the insistence, and someone in the house who knew what to do.

A year or so later she had a molar pregnancy that ended in miscarriage. She went looking for guidance on how to eat and rest her way back from it, and there was almost nothing. The hormonal drop is real, the digestion is affected, the exhaustion is real, and the internet had recipes for none of it.

That gap is the reason she trained. She took a postpartum nutrition certification and built Pura Mama so that the care she happened to receive at home does not depend on whether your mother knows how to give it.

Our mission

Supporting mothers with practical nutrition solutions

Most mothers are sent home with a baby and no plan for feeding themselves. What advice exists is rarely in their language, and rarely looks like the food they grew up eating.

We are building what Daniela's mother did, as an app and as a service: warm food matched to the week you are in, a grocery list that follows from it, and a cook who can come and make it. Six hundred recipes, from caldos to the 40-day rest, in English, Spanish and French, because a plan you cannot read is not a plan.

Daniela Prado's Certified Postpartum Nutrition Specialist certificate from Postpartum University, dated 1 August 2024

Certified in postpartum nutrition

Every mother's well-being is the priority here. Daniela completed the Postpartum Nutrition Certification Program through Postpartum University and holds the title of Certified Postpartum Nutrition Specialist. That training is what the guidance across this site is measured against, and she reviews it herself.
